What is Dupixent?
Dupixent, the brand name for dupilumab, is an injectable drug first developed in 2017 by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi Biotechnology. Available in pen and syringe forms, Dupixent injections are prescribed to treat:Â
- Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis (AD)Â
- Asthma patients
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
- Eosinophilic esophagitis
- Prurigo nodularis
- Chronic spontaneous urticaria
- Bullous pemphiogoid
According to the drug manufacturers, Dupixent is used by about one million patients worldwide. Since its launch, the drug has grossed more than $30 billion in total global sales.Â
The link between Dupixent use and cutaneous t-cell lymphoma (CTCL)
The development of Dupixent was a significant breakthrough in treating conditions like eczema, COPD, and eosinophilic esophagitis. However, a growing body of scientific research has found an association between the use of dupilumab and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL).Â
Concerns over CTCL and Dupixent use were first raised in 2020 in a letter published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Since then, numerous studies have been conducted on the relationship between dupilumab and the development of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.Â
A study published in April 2024 found that people who had been treated with dupilumab for atopic dermatitis were more than four times more likely to be diagnosed with CTCL than those who were not. Additional research in 2025 has supported these conclusions and underscored the link between Dupixent and CTCL.Â

The drug companies behind Dupixent
In 2007, Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals partnered to develop therapeutic antibodies for conditions including arthritis and eczema. Sanofi, then Sanofi-Aventis, is a French company whose American arm markets Dupixent in the U.S. Founded in 1988, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals is a publicly traded biotechnology company based in New York that develops medications for people with serious diseases.Â

What is CTCL?
Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is a rare but aggressive form of skin cancer. It affects white blood cells called T-cells, which help the body’s immune system fight germs. A type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, it can cause a rash, scaly patches on the skin, and sometimes other growths.Â
The causes of CTCL are not fully understood. However, some people may be more likely to develop the condition, including:Â
- Older people, especially those over age 50.Â
- People assigned male at birth.Â
- Black people.Â
- People with immune system issues, including HIV/AIDS.Â
- People with a family history of lymphoma or other cancers.Â
- People who have been exposed to certain chemicals or toxic substances.Â
CTCL symptoms and treatments
There are two types of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma: mycosis fungoides and Sezary syndrome. Mycosis fungoides is the most common type and grows slowly, mainly impacting the skin. Sezary syndrome is less common and affects the blood as well as the skin.Â
Symptoms of both types of CTCL include:Â
- Patches of raised, scaly skin that may be itchyÂ
- Patches that are red, pink, brown, gray, or lighter than the surrounding skinÂ
- Lumps on the skin that may break openÂ
- Swollen lymph nodesÂ
- Hair lossÂ
- Thickened skin on palms and solesÂ
- A scaly, itchy rashÂ
While treatment for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma depends on the type of skin cancer, it may include skin creams, light therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.Â
